Autauga County approves hires, promotions, grant awards and routine business; gun surplus sale draws one abstention

The Autauga County Commission on Nov. 19 approved a broad consent docket that included training and travel approvals, multiple hires and promotions, vendor contracts and a FY2024 Homeland Security Grant.
Travel approvals included emergency management and hazard/resilience conferences and training for reappraisal staff, jail staff, senior services and sheriff’s drone/search-and-rescue training. The commission approved a one-step pay increase for Amanda Porath after she successfully passed FAA drone licensing requirements and approved other personnel hires and promotions, including new and replacement positions in corrections and transportation; most personnel motions were recorded as unanimous.
The commission approved an agreement with Mobile Communication of America to update radios, airtime and GPS services for Rural Transportation and approved multiple FY2025 solid-waste tax exemptions for individual residences across the county. The minutes also show an ABC license application for 'Ballerz Lounge' (978 County Road 40 W, Prattville) was considered and "died for lack of motion." The commission accepted a FY2024 Homeland Security Grant Program award in the amount of $58,111.00 by unanimous vote.
One item on the consent docket drew a recorded non-unanimous result: the motion to surplus and sell a Sheriff’s Glock 22 Gen 4 .40-cal pistol to Gulf States carried 4-1, with Commissioner Rusty Jacksland recorded as abstaining.
The commission also handled administrative housekeeping: rescinding certain hires where necessary, approving replacements for van drivers and scheduling the next regular meeting for Dec. 3, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.
