Union County commissioners approve payrolls, claims and report $20.02 million in county funds

The Union County Board of Commissioners on June 10 approved payrolls and audited claims and heard the auditor’s monthly account showing $20,023,998.55 in total county funds.
Auditor Katie Winquist reported deposits of $5,989,407.38, cash on hand of $7,568.69, checks and drafts of $74,408.68 and investments of $13,940,409.01, for an aggregate total of $20,023,998.55. The auditor’s note says those figures include city, school and township pass-through funds.
Commissioner Kimmel moved to approve the claims; Commissioner Ballard seconded the motion, which the board carried. The minutes list multiple payroll and claim totals, including BW payrolls of $93,602.16 (5/30/2025) and $103,410.48 (6/13/2025) and CH payroll of $176,301.38. Department summaries recorded included federal prisoner and INS room-and-board fees ($15,793.85), Register of Deeds transfer tax ($19,298.50) and Clerk of Courts receipts ($27,842.77).
The board also approved a highway payment application for project 64-088-090 Replacement and authorized the chairman to sign. Commissioners recorded that the original contract was $477,063.50 and the amount currently due is $396,242.55; the motion to approve the chairman’s signature was made by Commissioner Dailey and seconded by Commissioner Ballard and carried.
Budget items were discussed intermittently with department heads during the meeting, but the minutes do not show a formal budget adoption or change.
