Lehigh Township postpones 2026 budget; resident urges targeted road funding

On Sept. 9 the Lehigh Township Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to table discussion of the 2026 budget until the next meeting when Supervisor Alice Rehrig will be present. The motion to table was made by Janet Sheats and seconded by David Hess.
The budget discussions began with police budget questions but the board decided to defer all further budget deliberations to ensure a full board participates in final decisions, a step board members said would allow for a more complete discussion of capital priorities.
During public comment, resident Katherine Mack urged the board to earmark some local tax revenue for road work in addition to state liquid fuels funds and said taxes might need to be raised to support a more substantive road program. Staff and supervisors discussed the scope of road needs; Public Works Superintendent Frank Zamadics noted that doing full-depth repairs properly can cost roughly $1 million per mile and that a 9‑mile per year program would create a 10‑year rotation.
Board members also noted that the oil‑and‑chip contractor is preparing to begin work and some paving may carry into next year if not completed by Sept. 30. The board did not change tax policy or adopt a road funding line in the meeting; any adjustments to the budget will be considered at the next meeting when budget deliberations resume.
