Lehigh Township supervisors complete annual reorganization, name officers and board appointments

Lehigh Township’s Board of Supervisors on Jan. 6 completed its annual reorganization, approving a slate of officer and board appointments and reaffirming financial safeguards.
The Board, meeting at the municipal building in Walnutport, appointed Jerry Pritchard temporary chairman and later confirmed Mike Jones as permanent chairman. Alice Rehrig was named township manager, secretary and treasurer; the Board kept the treasurer’s bond at $1,000,000 and authorized the treasurer to use established depositories including Neffs National Bank and PLGIT.
The reorganization included routine staffing and vendor appointments. Elizabeth Amato was appointed zoning officer; Hanover Engineering was named township engineer and Keystone Consulting Engineers was appointed sewage enforcement officer. The Board also named David Backenstoe legal counsel to the Board and Michael Corriere legal counsel to the Planning Commission. "We need open communication between the Boards," Supervisor Cindy Miller said when supporting the appointments.
The Board appointed representatives to standing bodies: Steve Arnold was appointed to the Municipal Authority after presenting the Authority’s recommendation and pledging tighter controls over collections; Patrick VanderPloeg was appointed to the Recreation Board; Cindy Miller was appointed to the Planning Commission. Supervisors set regular meeting dates for the Board and its committees and appointed delegates to the Tax Collection Committee and the state convention.
Why this matters: confirming officers and professional partners determines who has authority to sign checks, open accounts and advance land‑use work in Lehigh Township through 2025.
The Board adopted the appointments by roll call with the motions carrying unanimously unless otherwise noted. The meeting closed after an executive session on personnel and a motion to adjourn.
