Union County approves $240,021 budget supplement, accepts jailer resignation and approves claims

The Union County Board of Commissioners approved a formal budget supplement of $240,021 on Oct. 14 to correct omissions in the county’s 2026 budget, covering longevity, overtime, shift differential and holiday pay. The motion, made by Commissioner Dailey and seconded by Commissioner Ballard, carried.
The supplement was one of several formal actions the board took during the meeting in Elk Point. The board accepted the resignation of Jailer Bradly Hines, effective Sept. 30, 2025, and thanked him for his service. The board also approved a request from Pam Limoges to install a bench on the courthouse grounds in memory of Dan Limoges.
The commissioners audited and approved a lengthy set of vendor and service claims for routine county operations. Approved claims included payments to vendors and providers such as Goeden Properties, Myrl & Roys Paving, SD Dept. of Transportation, public defenders and county utilities; the minutes record that the motion to approve claims carried. Separately, the board approved abatement 2025-089 (Flood) in the amount of $91.28.
In procedural business, the board voted to move the Nov. 11 meeting to Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, because of Veterans Day. The board also recessed briefly from 9:21 a.m. to 9:32 a.m. during the meeting.
The actions taken at the Oct. 14 meeting were recorded in the unapproved minutes and are scheduled to be reflected in the next regular meeting on Oct. 28, 2025.
