The Charles Mix County Board of Commissioners heard a briefing Aug. 8 from Larry Dean of the South Dakota Department of Transportation on Federal Aid Road 6256, the stretch of 306th Street between 393rd and 395th Avenues in Ree Township. Dean outlined the road’s funding history and current options for repair and maintenance.
Ree Township representatives Shawn Smejkal and Clay Payer asked questions during the briefing about the road’s condition and local impacts. Superintendent Cimpl reviewed recent flooding in the area and described replacement needs and costs for culverts; the record also notes SDDOT and Brosz bridge replacement plans were discussed. The conversation was informational and no formal motion or vote was taken on the road at the Aug. 8 meeting.
County staff and the township indicated continued coordination with SDDOT will be required to determine exact scopes, funding responsibility and timing for any culvert or bridge work. The item is scheduled for further attention at the Aug. 22 commission meeting at the Wagner Highway Shop.
