Charles Mix County approves 2025 provisional budget, schedules public hearing and final adoption

The Charles Mix County Board of Commissioners approved a provisional budget for 2025 during its Aug. 8 regular session, with a public hearing set for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at the county courthouse and final adoption scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 26.

Auditor Jason Gant presented revenue and expense projections that formed the basis of the provisional budget. Gant also reviewed current county cash and bank totals for fiscal context: total deposits in banks $7,838,099.20, cash $600.00, checks $19,459.11 and a combined total reported as $7,858,158.31 for the month ending July 31, 2024. The Treasurer’s report for the same period showed a beginning balance of $7,628,476.54, total revenue of $1,595,146.91, total expenses $1,365,465.14 and an ending balance of $7,858,158.31.

Vice Chairman Colin Soukup moved to approve the 2025 provisional budget; Commissioner Nick Stotz seconded the motion and the board voted to approve it. The board will accept public comment and consider final adoption following the scheduled hearing and any subsequent adjustments.

The budget approval at the Aug. 8 meeting was part of a broader set of routine financial approvals the board handled that day, including acceptance of the Auditor’s Account with Treasurer and the Treasurer’s monthly report. No dollar figure for overall 2025 appropriations was provided in the meeting record; the public hearing will present the formal provisional budget document and any proposed changes.
