Commissioners note broadband BEAD applicant, Green Cement milestone and local events

During liaison updates at the Sept. 17 meeting, Vice‑Chair Barry Shullanberger told the board that a company from Henderson, Nevada, had applied for the federal BEAD (Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment) grant to bring high‑speed broadband to Lake County. Shullanberger said better broadband would support remote work and local economic development.
Chair Mark Albertson reported that Green Cement had shipped its first railcar the previous week and that U.S. Rep. Cliff Bentz planned a tele‑town hall that evening and an in‑person visit to Lake County on Sept. 24.
Lake County Chamber of Commerce Director Shelley Batty updated commissioners on community events: the "Freedom to Roam" film crew had been in Lakeview and the film is expected to premiere at the Alger Theater in March or April 2026; Travel Southern Oregon had suggested applying for Travel Oregon's Recreation Ready Program to study adding RV sites and amenities at Warner Canyon Ski Area, with a letter of intent due in October; she also distributed flyers for Cowboy Poetry (Oct. 9–12) and noted a Dove Advocacy Domestic Violence Awareness dinner on Oct. 11 from 5:00–11:00 p.m.
