Fairgrounds seeks bids for grandstand sprinkler upgrade as fair revenue falls short of expenses

Fairgrounds Manager Briana Perez told the Lake County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 15 that a request for bids had been issued to replace the grandstand fire suppression system after Business Oregon agreed to shift funding from a previously requested project.
Perez said the bids would be received until 2:00 p.m. Nov. 5, 2025. She reported the fair generated $10,000 more than anticipated from parking fees, the RV park performed well and there were more food vendors than expected; presale carnival tickets nearly sold out. Despite those increases, Perez said overall carnival costs had pushed the Fairgrounds budget into the negative and that she would present a request to the Town of Lakeview for $20,000 in transient lodging tax (TLT) funds to help cover expenses.
Vice‑Chair Barry Shullanberger and other commissioners acknowledged the project was costly but necessary and said the public should understand that grant funds are paying for the sprinkler upgrade. Perez said she would continue looking for outside funding and would present the TLT request to the Town of Lakeview.
