Local groups brief commissioners on skate park, trail, water and advocacy funding losses

Lake County Chamber of Commerce Director Shelley Batty used the board’s public‑comment period on Sept. 3 to update commissioners on several community events and local projects.
Batty reminded the board about a 'Tall Cop' presentation scheduled at the Alger Theatre the following Monday and the formal dedication for the skate park the next Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. She said a group of riders from the Freedom to Roam Tour would pass through the area that weekend on a 200‑mile gravel route to Chiloquin. Batty said downtown kickoff for the Fair and Round‑Up drew an estimated 200–300 people and that organizers raised more than $500 from a dunk tank.
Batty said construction on the bike trail was scheduled to begin in early October 2025 and would continue until winter; she said the anticipated completion of the first three miles was May 2026. She also noted, consistent with the district attorney's account at the meeting, that the Dove Advocacy Center was facing loss of victim advocacy funds.
Community Solutions Innovators (CSI) Board President Mark Smith reported that public meetings were complete, CSI planned to apply for funding to hire an economist to process results, and steering committees for eight focus areas had been formed and are recruiting volunteers.
Lakeview Town Council member Marty Collins reported that the town was focused on eliminating debt and had contacted the Ford Foundation for assistance. Collins said the town had not made progress on installing water meters and planned to hold a meeting to discuss possible solar power for the treatment plant; commissioners encouraged work toward resolving the north Lakeview water issue.
Commissioner liaison updates followed; the meeting adjourned at 10:52 a.m.
