The Rawlins County Board of Commissioners approved two public-safety and transportation items during its Jan. 13 meeting: a shuttle van repair and a purchase by Rural Fire District No. 1.
Deputy County Clerk Renee Sagel reported the county shuttle needs camshafts replaced and possibly further repairs once technicians inspect it; C.A.R. Specialists provided a quote for $2,059.32. The board approved the quote and accepted that the shuttle will be closed Jan. 28 and 29 for repairs; staff cautioned closures could extend if parts are delayed.
In separate action, Kelsey Wahrman reported that Kevin Holle identified and purchased a 1997 Chevy 3500 fire truck with 16,178 miles, a 300-gallon tank and an 18-horsepower pump; it lacked hoses, nozzles and a radio. The board approved RFD#1’s purchase from Holle for $6,405, to be paid from the RFD#1 Equipment Fund. Fire Chief Glen Wahrman had reviewed the vehicle and recommended acquisition for Achilles but additional outfitting will be required before front-line use.
