Washington County adopts redistricting map in unanimous vote

The Washington County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Oct. 4 to adopt Resolution 2021-019 and Map #2, approving a county redistricting plan presented by GIS/Mapping Director Harry White and Richard Livingston of the Local Fellows program.
White and Livingston presented the proposed map and summarized public interactions; Livingston said there were more than 300 interactions on Facebook but no substantive questions. County Manager and County Attorney Curtis Potter told the board a public hearing was not required before adoption. Commissioner Carol Phelps moved to adopt the resolution and map; Commissioner Julius Walker seconded, and a roll call vote recorded four yea votes (Commissioners Walker, Phelps, Keyes and Vice-Chair Tracey Johnson). Commissioner Sexton was absent.
The board's action finalizes the map as presented to commissioners on Oct. 4. No additional public hearing was scheduled at the meeting. The board did not attach conditions or amendments to the adopted map during deliberations.
