Washington County commissioners approve consent agenda, appointments and budget transfers and back local health grant

The Washington County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the consent agenda, appointed members to boards, approved budget amendments and transfers (including BT#2022-072) and authorized a letter of support for the MTW Health Department’s Health Beginnings grant.
At its April 7 meeting the Washington County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved its consent agenda, confirmed several board appointments and approved budget amendments and transfers presented by Finance Officer Missy Dixon.
The consent agenda included approval of March 7 minutes; tax refunds and releases; Proclamation 2022-009 marking National County Government Month; Resolutions 2022-010 (terminating reintroduction of the red wolf), 2022-011 (requesting the North Carolina Department of Commerce and NCWorks to retain boundaries for the Northeastern Local Workforce Development Area), 2022-012 (authorizing sale of real property pursuant to G.S. 160A) and the FY22 audit contract. Commissioner Sexton moved to approve the consent agenda and Commissioner Phelps seconded; a roll call recorded five yeas and the motion carried.
Under boards and committees, the board approved appointing Marcus Williams to replace Raj Patel on the Travel & Tourism Authority, appointed Keyoshia C. Liverman to the Library Board and reappointed Commissioner Julius Walker Jr. to the DSS Board; those appointments were approved unanimously.
Finance Officer Missy Dixon presented budget amendments/transfers. Commissioner Sexton questioned BT#2022-072, noting a destroyed ankle monitor and saying a prisoner “shouldn’t be allowed to get away with this” and asking whether penalties apply; County Manager Potter said he and Ms. Dixon will meet with the Sheriff to discuss. Sexton also asked about the county’s exposure to rising fuel costs; Potter said department transfers should manage the increases. The board voted unanimously to approve the budget amendments and transfers as presented.
Commissioner Keyes, serving as a member of the MTW Board of Health, asked for a letter of support for the MTW Health Department’s proposal for the Health Beginnings grant; Commissioner Sexton moved to approve the letter of support, Commissioner Phelps seconded, and the vote was unanimous.
The meeting proceeded to closed session under N.C.G.S. §143-318.11(a)(3) and (a)(6); after returning to open session the board adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
