Washington County commissioners approve consent agenda, ratify land purchase and increase manager pay

The Washington County Board of Commissioners on July 5 approved a slate of routine items, ratified a conditional purchase of 57.6 acres adjacent to Pines Elementary School and voted to raise the county manager's salary to $110,000.
The actions were carried by unanimous votes of the five commissioners present. The board approved the consent agenda, which included minutes from the June 6 meeting, tax refunds and releases, Resolution 2022-023 appointing a review officer, the FY2023 salary schedule and COLA adjustments, the statutory re-appointment of the tax assessor/collector, a response to auditors' findings, and Resolution 2022-024 declaring July Parks & Recreation Month.
The board also ratified terms of an Offer to Purchase for a 57.6-acre tract adjacent to Pines Elementary School and authorized the county to pay for the seller's deed preparation and any deferred or rollback taxes related to removing the property from present-use taxation. Commissioner Julius Walker moved the ratification; Commissioner Ann Keyes seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Commissioners additionally approved an increase to County Manager Curtis Potter's salary to $110,000, effective July 16, 2022. Commissioner Bill Sexton moved the salary increase; Commissioner Carol Phelps seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Other routine personnel and board business included appointing Fetima Moore, HR Specialist, to the Employee of the Quarter Committee and designating Commissioner Ann Keyes as the voting delegate to the NCACC Annual Conference and NACo conference; both appointments passed without opposition.
The board voted to enter closed session under N.C. Gen. Stat. 143-318.11(a)(3) and (a)(6) to discuss attorney-client privileged matters and personnel, returning to open session to take the ratification votes. The meeting adjourned after the votes.
