Charlotte County releases $137,500 to CCRS amid slow Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements

Supervisor Walter T. Bailey told the board that revenues for the Charlotte County Rescue Squad (CCRS) have been slow to arrive and moved to release the organization's December payment of $137,500 immediately.
Public Safety Director Chris Russell explained the delay is a timing issue with Medicaid and Medicare payments rather than local billing practices, and said CCRS currently posts a roughly 72% return rate on billables compared with about 40% in surrounding counties. The board approved the payment by a 5-2 vote; Supervisors Hazel Bowman Smith and Garland H. Hamlett voted No.
Bailey also moved and the board approved directing staff to send a letter to Senator Ruff asking the Governor to release the State Fire and EMS study report that Bailey said could provide useful context for the county's EMS funding issues. The motion to request the report carried with all other members voting Aye.
