The Madison County Board of Elections on Dec. 4 completed a bi-partisan sample hand-to-eye audit of ballots for North Carolina Supreme Court Associate Justice Seat 06 and found no discrepancies, the board reported at a special meeting in Marshall.
Jacob Ray, director of the Madison County Board of Elections, reviewed Numbered Memo 2024-09, titled "Hand-To-Eye Recount," with the bi-partisan sample hand-eye team and the board and said the team’s sample audit produced the same results as the recount. The team completed required paperwork and the board reviewed and signed off on the work.
The meeting opened at 9:00 a.m. Chair Jerry Wallin and Secretary Dyatt Smathers were present, along with members Ray Lewis and Debbie Ponder and Director Jacob Ray. A motion by Dyatt Smathers, seconded by Jerry Wallin, to approve the Oct. 29 and Nov. 4, 2024 absentee minutes passed unanimously, 4-0.
After the audit review and documentation, the board moved to adjourn. A motion to adjourn was made and passed unanimously; the meeting adjourned at 9:55 a.m.
The special meeting was limited to the sample hand-to-eye audit for Seat 06 and routine procedural business; no discrepancies were reported and no further action was recorded at the meeting.
