Catawba County sets preliminary assessment and public hearing for Mountain Creek Ridge road improvements

Catawba County commissioners on Jan. 20 determined the total cost for road improvements in the Mountain Creek Ridge subdivision to be $235,107.30 and directed the Tax Administrator to prepare a preliminary assessment roll.
Under the petition-driven program the county provides up-front financing to repair private subdivision roads to NCDOT standards, after which NCDOT may accept the roads into its secondary maintenance program. For Mountain Creek Ridge the project was completed and NCDOT staff indicated the roads meet standards. The board set the preliminary assessment roll to be available for public inspection and scheduled a public hearing on the roll for 7:00 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2026. The preliminary roll assesses 46 lots at $5,111.03 per lot; owners may pay as a lump sum or over 10 annual payments (1.5% interest), with an annual payment about $554.21.
The board also authorized staff to submit the petition to the NCDOT Board to accept Mountain Creek Drive, Creek Bend Court, Stonemill Path and Falls Ridge Trail into the State's secondary road maintenance program, which would transfer maintenance responsibility to NCDOT once accepted.
