Catawba County extends five fire service districts to align with new county line
Summary
After a public hearing with no speakers, the Board unanimously adopted Resolution No. 2025-39 to extend the Cooksville, Propst, Maiden, Bandys and Sherrills Ford fire service districts to match a county boundary change; the change takes effect July 1, 2026.
Following a presentation by Fire Marshal Troy Scott, the Catawba County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Nov. 3 to extend five fire service districts so they align with a county boundary change enacted by the General Assembly.
The public hearing covered proposed boundary revisions for the Bandys, Cooksville, Maiden, Propst and Sherrills Ford districts and explained the legal basis under North Carolina General Statute § 153A-303 for extending service districts. No members of the public came forward during the hearing. After the presentation, Vice Chair Austin Allran moved to adopt the resolution; the motion carried 5-0.
The Board found the affected areas are contiguous to the districts and meet the statutory standards for extension. Maps and GIS materials showing current and proposed boundaries were entered into the record; staff advised that the resolution takes effect July 1, 2026 to align services with the revised county jurisdictional area.
The action reassigns service boundaries for planning and tax-year purposes; property owners affected by the changes had been mailed notice and the county published the required hearing notice in the Hickory Daily Record.
