Durham County hears 2024 resident survey results; commissioners request EMS response trends

The Durham County Board of Commissioners received the 2024 City-County Resident Survey presentation March 10 from Jason Morado, director of community research at ETC Institute. The presentation covered methodology, respondent geography, comparisons to other communities, trend analysis and top community priorities.
Commissioners asked whether the survey data distinguished Durham Public Schools attendance and whether homeowners or renters were overrepresented. Morado said the survey asked which description best fit children in the household and that weighting could be applied to adjust homeowner/renter representation; he confirmed more homeowners than renters responded but noted data weighting is an option to balance results.
Board members asked that Emergency Medical Services (EMS) be added to the County survey results because EMS is a County service. County Manager Hager said staff would contact EMS to obtain trend data on response times and that staff would use the survey results to research causes where the County is underperforming and to examine funding implications.
What’s next: County staff will obtain EMS response-time trends and incorporate findings into staff briefings on service performance and budget considerations; no formal action was taken at the March 10 meeting.
