Durham County and the City of Durham announced on Aug. 11 that they will hold a second round of public engagement for the Durham-to-Roxboro Rail Trail Planning Study, a community-driven effort to evaluate converting an 18-mile inactive rail corridor into a multi-use trail.
Monica Wallace, Clerk to the Board, read the announcement outlining three drop-in public workshops: Aug. 18, 5–7 p.m. at Durham County Main Library (300 N. Roxboro St.); Aug. 27, 6–8 p.m. at Edison Johnson Recreation Center (500 Murray Ave.); and Aug. 28, 6–8 p.m. at Spruce Pine Lodge (2235 Bahama Rd.). The notice also referenced partner organizations involved in the planning study, including the Triangle West Transportation Planning Organization (TWTPO), the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the East Coast Greenway Alliance, and provided a project website and online survey for additional input.
County officials described the process as community-driven and encouraged residents to attend the workshops or complete the online survey to share preferences, concerns and local knowledge about connectivity, trail design and adjacent land uses. No formal decisions or funding approvals were made at the meeting; the item was an informational announcement about outreach opportunities.
