Parma Heights recreation reports strong pool opening, schedules cardboard-boat races and Dive-In movie

Recreation Director Bacci told Parma Heights City Council on June 12 that the municipal pool opened for the season on June 2 and "averaged about 550 people on that day." She said boys and girls U13 and U15 teams finished first in their leagues and that the U13 age group has been undefeated since last fall.
Bacci announced a family cardboard-boat activity with building time and a race scheduled for a later date in June; she said the building session is planned from noon to 2 p.m. and that the actual race will occur at the end of June after teams have time to test craft. The department will host a Dive-In movie on June 17 at 8:30 p.m. Bacci thanked Director Sepik and the service department for new deck lighting at the pool.
Bacci also said the recreation department hired a new Playground Coordinator, Sarina, who will run free activities and crafts twice a week in the Commons area, including a nature scavenger hunt and crafts tied to the movie event.
Councilwoman Maruschak offered praise for staff and the pool experience, noting a positive interaction with a welcoming pool employee and the department's communication with swim teams when schedules change.
