Brewster County approves proposed 2025 tax rate, sets public hearings on 2026 budget and tax rate

The Brewster County Commissioners Court on Aug. 12 approved a proposed 2025 tax rate and set public hearings on the county’s proposed 2026 budget and the tax rate for Aug. 26, 2025 at 9:30 a.m.
County Judge Greg P. Henington presented the proposed fiscal year 2026 budget and moved to schedule the statutorily required public hearing; the court approved the hearing date by unanimous vote. Later in the meeting Henington moved to approve the proposed 2025 tax rate. Commissioner Sara Colando seconded, and Henington called a roll-call vote: Commissioners Westermann, Colando, Ortega, Morrow and Judge Henington voted “Aye.” The motion passed 5-0.
The scheduled Aug. 26 hearings will allow public review and comment before the commissioners take any final action on the budget and the tax rate. The court recorded compliance references on the agenda: Local Government Code (LGC) 111.007(b) for the budget hearing and Tax Code 26.05(d) for the tax-rate hearing.
No public comments were recorded during the Aug. 12 meeting. The next regular meeting of the commissioners court is scheduled for Aug. 26, 2025 at 9:30 a.m., when the public hearings will be held.
