County accepts recommended tourism budget and approves content contracts amid Chisos Lodge closure

The Brewster County Commissioners Court on July 8 received the Tourism Council’s recommended FY2026 budget and approved two content-creation contracts.
Linda Walker, vice president of the Brewster County Tourism Council, presented the proposed Tourism Budget for FY2026 and explained it reflects an anticipated loss of revenue because Chisos Lodge in Big Bend National Park will be closed for renovations. The court will add the presented Tourism Budget to the county’s full FY2026 budget for review and approval.
Robert Alvarez, Executive Director of Brewster County Tourism, presented a general update on marketing, travel shows and visitation trends and introduced two proposed content contracts. The court approved the contract for Global Debauchery and the contract for El Paso Travel Family after motions by Commissioner Ruben Ortega and second by Commissioner Sara Colando; both motions passed 5-0.
Next steps: the Tourism Budget will be reviewed within the overall county budget and contracted content creators will proceed under the terms approved by the court.
