Brewster County commissioners approve park work, court interlocal and multiple grant applications

The court unanimously approved $40,400 for tree trimming and removal at Marathon Post Park after Commissioner Ruben Ortega moved to approve and Commissioner William "Mo" Morrow seconded the motion. The court also authorized up to $25,000 to replace windows at the Red Pattillo Community Center in Study Butte; that motion was moved by Commissioner Ortega and seconded by Commissioner Sara Allen Colando.
The court approved an Interlocal Agreement among Brewster, Jeff Davis, Culberson, Hudspeth and Presidio counties to fund and manage an administrative position for the 394th District Court. Commissioner Ortega moved the interlocal agreement and Commissioner Jim Westermann seconded; the motion passed on a recorded 5-0 vote.
On budget matters related to prosecution, the court approved a $35,000 line-item adjustment in the 83rd District Attorney's budget to pay Lynch, Chappell & Alsup for legal fees for District Attorney Ori White. Commissioner William "Mo" Morrow moved the adjustment and Commissioner Ortega seconded; the court approved it 5-0 and noted final payment is subject to approval by all counties in the 83rd District.
Grant Administrator Jaclyn Nunley presented four grant application resolutions. The court voted 5-0 to approve: the Multi-Jurisdictional FY2026 resolution (moved by Judge Greg P. Henington), Stonegarden FY2025 (moved by Ms. Nunley and on the record as approved by Commissioner Ortega), Body Camera FY2026 and Operation Lone Star FY2026 (each moved and approved as presented). The resolutions authorize staff to apply for the listed grants; further award and acceptance will require later action if funds are offered.
