Bedford County Salary Board approves wage and personnel actions for 22 employees

The Bedford County Salary Board approved wages and personnel actions for 22 employees at a brief meeting on Oct. 14, 2025, the board’s minutes show. Treasurer Melissa Cottle moved the measure, Commissioner Winck seconded, and the motion was approved.

The approvals covered a range of clerical, public safety and court-related positions. Among the entries the board recorded: Donna Smith and Heather Seace were listed as Clerk Typist II at $14.65 per hour (per union contract); Catey Cain was approved as a full-time telecommunicator at $16.29 per hour; and multiple corrections officers received wage approvals, several at $17.50 per hour following completion of the academy. One personnel entry noted Amanda Means as Secretary in the Public Defender’s Office at $18.13 per hour with 25 years of longevity credited.

Some approvals were explicitly tied to union contract rates; others reflected completion of training or certification requirements. The minutes identify specific training-related approvals including an instructor-training designation for a lieutenant related to Taser 7 devices and restricted housing supervision training for another lieutenant.

The board also approved the Oct. 14 minutes earlier in the meeting on a motion by Commissioner Winck, seconded by Melissa Cottle. Commissioner Winck moved to adjourn at 11:59 a.m.; Commissioner Baughman seconded and the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting was set for Nov. 18, 2025, unless called sooner by the Board of Commissioners.
