Bedford County Salary Board approves July wage rates and personnel appointments

The Bedford County Salary Board convened at 10:16 a.m. on July 8, 2025, immediately following the Commissioners’ meeting and approved minutes from its June 10 session. Melissa Cottle, the county treasurer, moved to approve the minutes; Commissioner Baughman seconded and the motion carried.

The board then approved a motion, again moved by Melissa Cottle and seconded by Commissioner Baughman, to adopt the wages and personnel actions submitted by department heads for July. The approved list included hourly rates and effective dates for positions across departments: Dakota Baker, case supervisor with Children and Youth Services at $21.38 per hour (longevity for five years noted, effective 6/8/25); Ashlyn Miller, court recorder, $20.80 per hour (effective 6/9/25); Laneah Bowen, full-time Field Assessor 1 in Tax Assessment at $15.00 per hour (effective 6/16/25); and a series of full-time and part-time corrections officers and supervisory corrections staff at union contract rates with listed effective dates.

Specific public-safety and sheriff’s office actions approved included Derek Zinn as a full-time deputy at $16.00 per hour, effective 7/7/25, and Kimberly Shaw as a full-time Clerk Typist 1 in the Sheriff’s Office at $12.30 per hour (effective 7/7/25). The personnel list also recorded juvenile probation and other county positions with their respective hourly rates and dates as presented to the board. Several corrections officer hires were approved under union contract rates with effective dates between 6/16/25 and 7/21/25.

There was no old business. After completing the listed approvals the board adjourned at 10:17 a.m.; the next Salary Board meeting was scheduled for August 12, 2025, unless called sooner.
