Greenville City Council elects Jeff Scoby mayor, James Barrus mayor pro-tem; approves 2023 calendar and committee appointments

The Greenville City Council, at its Jan. 3 organizational meeting, unanimously elected Jeff Scoby as mayor and James Barrus as mayor pro-tem and adopted a meeting schedule for 2023.
Councilperson Lehman nominated Councilperson Jeff Scoby for mayor; with no other nominations the council voted unanimously to elect Scoby, who was sworn in and took the chair. Councilperson Lehman also nominated Councilperson James Barrus for mayor pro-tem; Barrus was elected unanimously and sworn in.
The council approved a motion from Councilperson Moss, supported by Councilperson Johnson, to hold regular council meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. The council also agreed to cancel the regular meeting that would fall on July 4, 2023, because of the holiday week.
Councilperson Moss moved, and Councilperson Lehman supported, a package of council appointments to boards, commissions and committees. The council adopted the appointments as amended. Among the assignments recorded in the meeting minutes: Councilperson Lehman to the Airport Advisory Board and Elections Commission; Councilperson Scoby on the Annexation Committee (with Lehman and Moss also listed), Scoby to the Downtown Development Authority and Housing Commission; Councilperson Moss to the Planning Commission and Greenville Area Community Center Board; Councilperson Johnson to the Financial/Audit Evaluation Committee; Councilperson Barrus to the Danish Festival Board; and Cunliffe noted as county liaison or alternate where applicable.
The organizational meeting concluded when Councilperson Lehman moved to adjourn, Councilperson Moss supported the motion, and the council adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
Meeting attendees recorded in the minutes were Councilpersons Lehman, Linton, Barrus, Moss, Johnson and Scoby; Councilperson Cunliffe was absent. City Manager Bosanic and Assistant City Manager Feazel were listed as present in the minutes, and Norice Rasmussen served as clerk and finance director.
