City approves Veterans Park reservations, hears mural proposal

The Soddy‑Daisy Board of Commissioners unanimously approved multiple park reservations and heard a presentation on plans for a mural on the side of Wimpy’s Restaurant during its July 21 meeting.
Dawn Coulter of Mile Straight Baptist Church requested use of Veterans Park on Labor Day, Sept. 5, saying the church planned to provide “free lunch … yard games and music.” Vice‑Mayor Cothran moved to approve the reservation and Commissioner Coleman seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Tonya Dodd, representing United States Liberty Alliance/Tennessee Neighbors for Liberty and Moms for Liberty, requested use of the park on Aug. 13 for a back‑to‑school event with inflatables and food trucks; Mayor Nunley suggested she contact the library and staff was directed to help schedule the park. That reservation was also approved unanimously.
Terri Williamson, representing the mural project, described a plan to paint a mural on the side of Wimpy’s Restaurant and outlined efforts to form a coalition including Keep Soddy‑Daisy Beautiful and public and private funding sources. Artist Mary Tomas was introduced as the selected painter. Cindi Sanden said nine food trucks have been confirmed for the festival associated with the 5K run on Oct. 15.
The board asked staff to coordinate logistics and reservation details with requesters; Assistant Recorder Annette Dolberry was asked to follow up to reserve the park.
