Soddy-Daisy commissioners on Sept. 15 asked the city attorney to review local rules governing short-term rentals and prepare a moratorium resolution for the board’s next meeting.
Commissioner Shipley said only “three or four” short-term rentals in the city appear to be operating with proper permits and raised concerns that neighbors are not notified when an application is made. He said some out-of-town buyers and corporate purchasers are acquiring properties within the city and said short-term rentals function as businesses in residential areas.
City Attorney Elliott agreed to review the city's ordinance and to bring a draft moratorium resolution to the board at the next meeting. Shipley noted the City of Chattanooga has a moratorium and said Hamilton County is reviewing its ordinance; the commission directed Elliott to consider those examples in his review.
The board did not take formal action at the Sept. 15 meeting beyond instructing the attorney to prepare materials for the next meeting.
