Sullivan County commissioners elect 2026 leadership, confirm key county appointments

The Sullivan County Commissioners on Jan. 5 elected Commissioner Scott D. Myers as chair for 2026 and Commissioner Brian Hoffman as vice chair, and confirmed several county appointments for the year.
Commissioner Darlene Fenton moved to elect Myers as chair; Commissioner Brian Hoffman seconded. The motion passed 2–0 with Myers abstaining because he declared a conflict of interest. After the vote, the meeting was turned over to Chair Myers.
Fenton then moved to elect Hoffman as vice chair; Myers seconded. That motion passed 2–0 with Hoffman abstaining due to a conflict of interest.
During public comment, Chair Myers commended his colleagues “for carrying on a tradition in Sullivan County of willingness to allow the minority representative to hold the position of chair,” saying, “This symbolizes the board is not just bipartisan, but truly non-partisan and here to serve Sullivan County as a whole.”
The board unanimously approved a slate of 2026 appointments: Kenneth R. Levitzky as county solicitor (the meeting record notes this will be his 43rd year serving in that role), Hope Verelst as chief clerk, Susan McCarty as chief assessor/tax claim director, and Patrick Johnson as public defender.
The meeting record also shows administrative actions approved or acknowledged by the board during the session, including the unanimous acknowledgment that Sullivan County Emergency Services’ license to use LOGISYS software was canceled effective Dec. 31, 2025. The board tabled a separate certification that all LOGISYS software and related documentation had been destroyed, voting to revisit that certification at the Jan. 13, 2026 meeting pending receipt of proper certification.
The commissioners approved the satisfactory completion of the 60-day probationary period for 911 Coordinator Marcia Pedro, effective Jan. 4, 2026.
