Spencer County Fiscal Court on May 19 approved a jail housing agreement with Bullitt County under which Spencer County will pay $32 per prisoner per day to house detainees at the Bullitt County Detention Center in Shepherdsville. The written agreement sets a 35-person maximum for Spencer County inmates housed at any one time and specifies additional fees for transportation outside the facility and guard overtime ($30 per hour plus $0.50 per mile for transport staff when Bullitt County staff are used).
The contract requires Spencer County to provide medical-release documentation before accepting injured inmates and states that Bullitt County is not financially responsible for medical treatment costs of Spencer County prisoners except when attributable to Bullitt County or its staff. The agreement is set to remain in effect until July 1, 2026, but may be terminated by either party upon 60 days' written notice; the minutes show the fiscal court approved entering the agreement on the motion of Esq. Pharris, seconded by Esq. Cotton.
The minutes record standard indemnity language and administrative arrangements for transportation and alternative placement if the Bullitt facility must remove Spencer County prisoners due to space limitations.
