Spencer County funds Octoberfest support, partially funds Tourism office lease at Chamber

The court approved $2,155.50 to provide portable restrooms and a dumpster for Spencer County Octoberfest (request submitted by Sharon Thomas and Patsy Lewis). The motion carried on a voice vote with all members voting 'aye' except Magistrate Stump, who abstained.
Separately, the court approved a $3,000 contribution to support Tourism’s lease of office space inside the Chamber of Commerce for one year. Judge Travis said the county has been covering the Tourism office rent since the city stopped its contribution; the approved donation is contingent on the Tourism office and the Chamber executing standard legal documentation and a formal lease. Magistrate Eldridge moved the $3,000 allocation; Magistrate Stump seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Why it matters: the payments provide in-kind support for a community festival and bridge a budget gap for county tourism operations while the county and city discuss longer-term arrangements.
What’s next: county staff will cut the approved check and assist with the Tourism office move into Chamber space per the court’s direction.
