Road department inventory reviewed; court authorizes spreaders, tire purchases and major salt order recorded

Spencer County Fiscal Court authorized up to $15,000 to buy two tailgate spreaders and to repair a county truck, approved purchases of tires and recorded a large Morton Salt invoice in the road fund register.
The fiscal court spent significant time Nov. 3 on the road department’s equipment status and near-term purchases.
Road supervisor Dakota Whitehouse presented a detailed inventory of trucks and heavy equipment (multiple Ford trucks, Mack tri-axle, graders, trackhoe, backhoe, mowers and attachments). The court approved a motion to spend up to $15,000 to purchase two tailgate spreaders and to repair Allen’s truck; Esqs. Eldridge and Cotton sponsored the motion. The court also approved a Judge Travis motion to purchase 8 tires for $1,568.80 and 6 tires for $1,335.60 (Daugherty’s Service Center estimates dated Oct. 23, 2025 were entered into the record).
The road-fund invoice register attached to the minutes documents larger purchases and recurring costs: a Morton Salt line item for 197.59 units at $120.50 per unit totaling $23,809.60 appears in the road register; road-fund vendor payments for the period total $36,196.46. The court also approved a backhoe payment (#11) and routine sign and parts orders recorded in the register.
Next steps: the approved purchases will proceed under the road department’s procurement process; large salt and parts orders will be processed through accounts payable per the approved invoice register.
