Spencer County to fund 10 residents in Net Recovery program using opioid settlement funds

At its Dec. 15 meeting Spencer County Fiscal Court voted to sponsor 10 county residents in the Net Recovery program, a non‑medication device intended to ease opioid withdrawal.
Kelly Dycus, who identified herself as a Franklin County magistrate and a mental health practitioner, told the court the Net device recently gained FDA approval and is intended to help during the withdrawal period. Dycus said current deployments include five detention centers and nine treatment facilities and that long‑term studies are underway. She said the cost for treatment with the Net device is $5,500 per person.
Following the presentation, Magistrates voted to authorize sponsorship of 10 Spencer County residents at a total cost of $55,000, to be paid from the county’s Opioid fund. The motion was made by Esq. Stump and seconded by Esq. Cotton and carried by unanimous voice vote.
Judge Scott Travis noted the sponsorship would place the county among several others using the device and said the county wanted to provide non‑medication withdrawal options for residents. County officials did not identify recipients during the meeting. The motion directs county staff to use opioid settlement funds for the sponsorship and to report back on program implementation as required.
