Spencer County Fiscal Court approves Clerk and Sheriff 2026 budgets and sets salary caps

On Jan. 5 the Spencer County Fiscal Court approved the County Clerk's 2026 budget and set the clerk's maximum expenditure for deputies and assistants at $420,000 for calendar year 2026, including fringe benefits. Clerk Lynn Hesselbrock told the Court she expected actual fees collected to be closer to $780,000 after December receipts were finalized.
The Court also considered the Sheriff’s proposed salary cap and approved a maximum of $1,515,000 for deputies and assistants for 2026. The Sheriff presented a review of office activities for 2025 prior to the vote; members approved the salary-cap order by voice vote with Judge Travis absent. The Court later approved the Sheriff's 2026 budget in a separate motion.
Why it matters: salary caps set the maximum amounts county constitutional officers may spend from collected fees for deputies, assistants and related personnel expenses. These decisions frame payroll and benefit spending for the year and are required by KRS 64.530(3).
