Fiscal Court approves transfers, payments and SCBA bid notice; sheriff touts license-plate cameras

Simpson County Fiscal Court approved routine financial actions, vendor payments and procurement steps during its May 20 meeting.

The court authorized a cash transfer of $10,357.94 from the Federal Grant Fund to the General Fund and approved multiple line-item budget transfers reallocating funds across departments (including transfers to asphalt, prisoners' uniforms, sheriff software and judicial center insurance lines). The April financial statement was approved subject to audit, and the court voted to approve the bills and claims presented on the docket, which list payments to dozens of vendors and payroll lines (including payments to Scotty's Contracting & Stone, Comprehensive Correctional Care, Spurr Architecture and county payroll totals).

The court also authorized release of an SCBA bid notice (bids due June 13) and approved participation in the KACo/Orbis online salt auction. Magistrate Marty Chandler asked whether local companies would see the SCBA notice; Judge Barnes said the county is required to advertise in the local paper and that fire department chiefs circulate notices to industry outlets; the court agreed to explore cooperative bid advertising in the future. The court authorized an AA-KY incentive application and authorized the county judge to sign.

Sheriff Jere D. Hopson told the court that Flock license-plate cameras have become more popular and, though expensive, have proven effective in key locations for locating stolen vehicles and assisting investigations. Magistrate Scott Poston raised local traffic-safety concerns, saying he had observed frequent illegal U-turns near a curb by Fivestar; Judge Barnes said he would schedule a meeting with Mr. Plunk to discuss solutions.
