County Treasurer Kim Blanchet read the ordinance line-by-line during the meeting, listing fund amounts including General $4,766,136; Road $1,932,471; Jail $2,285,106; Airport Project $2,308,831; and other dedicated funds that together total $14,535,914. Magistrate Mickey Garner moved to adopt the ordinance and Magistrate Larry Skaggs seconded; the court voted unanimously to adopt the budget.
Judge Randy Marcum also asked the court to approve a transfer of $75,000 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund to address jail-related shortfalls; Magistrate Steve Richardson moved the transfer, Magistrate Zach Wilson seconded, and the court approved the transfer unanimously.
Blanchet read Ordinance 25-06 for unbudgeted receipts as a first reading; no vote was required at this meeting. The court also accepted the treasurer's monthly settlement and pre-approved AE transfers without discussion.
Why it matters: The adopted budget establishes county spending priorities for the coming fiscal year, funding court operations, roads, jail operations and several grant- and program-specific accounts. The approved transfer to the jail fund addresses an interim funding need the detention center report illustrated earlier in the meeting.
The court took the votes during its regular meeting on May 12, and no public hearing or dissent on the budget was recorded in the meeting minutes. The court adjourned at 10:55 a.m.
