Sheriff reports January activity; 2024 fee settlement brings $42,079.56 in excess fees to the fiscal court

Sheriff Polston presented the department’s January activity and the 2024 final fee settlement at the Russell County Fiscal Court meeting on Feb. 10.
Polston reported operational counts including 507 911 calls, 23 arrests and 59 traffic stops for January and said tax collections for the month totaled $348,267.60. He also presented the 2024 fee settlement showing $1,456,563.46 in income, $1,414,483.90 in expenses, and excess fees of $42,079.56 to be turned over to the fiscal court. Magistrate Zach Wilson moved to accept the report and the court approved the settlement unanimously.
The detention center report (read separately by County Treasurer Kim Blanchet) showed total income for the detention center of $212,770.37 (including a $127,000 transfer from the general fund) and expenses of $170,251.31; average daily inmates for the month were 91. The court voted to accept the detention center report as presented.
