Kittitas County commissioners approve marathon permit, appointment and office furniture purchase

The Kittitas County Board of County Commissioners on Feb. 9, 2026, approved several routine items, including a special-event permit for the Yakima River Canyon Marathon, an appointment to the Veterans Advisory Board and an amended office-furniture purchase.
Commissioner Laura Osiadacz moved and Chairman Cory Wright seconded approval of a Special Event Application to hold the annual Yakima River Canyon Marathon and half marathon on Saturday, March 28, 2026, and to grant a waiver to Kittitas County Code Chapter 5.20.160 (Closing Hours). The approval was conditioned on recommendations from Public Works, the Sheriff’s Office, Public Health and the Fire Marshal; the motion carried 2-0.
The board also approved a Certificate of Appreciation for Tim Redel, identified in the minutes as a Misdemeanant Probation Officer, honoring service from Jan. 21, 2003, through May 31, 2026. Commissioner Osiadacz moved the certificate and Chairman Wright seconded; the motion carried 2-0.
The board appointed Ed Barry to the Kittitas County Veterans Advisory Board for a two-year term effective immediately; the minutes record the motion passed 2-0. (The minutes list an expiration date of Dec. 31, 2021 for the term as written in the record; that date appears inconsistent with the appointment year and is recorded here as it appears in the minutes.)
Mandy Buchholz, the county Office Administrator, presented a furniture proposal from Harris Office Interiors originally quoted at $16,691. The board directed staff to ask Harris to include furniture for the District 3 office; the plan is for Misdemeanor Probation to temporarily 'borrow' the furniture until a future election results in a new commissioner, at which time Probation will obtain replacement furniture. Commissioner Osiadacz moved to approve an amended proposal for $20,020 (not including taxes); Chairman Wright seconded and the motion carried 2-0.
The minutes record no public comment. The board reviewed its weekly calendar, correspondence log and whiteboard items and agreed on social-media posts for the week, including notice of an upcoming county holiday (the agenda text contains a typographical error for the holiday date) and an announcement about the National County Government Month Coloring Contest inviting local students to participate.
The meeting opened at 9:00 a.m. and concluded at 9:35 a.m.
