After 49 public comments, Kittitas County continues Suncadia development-agreement hearing to allow review

At 2:04 p.m. Chair Cory Wright opened a public hearing on a proposed 15-year extension to the existing Suncadia development agreement (DV-25-0001). Planning Manager Jamey Ayling said staff and the applicant had received 49 written comments and that the timeframe for the Feb. 3 hearing did not allow adequate opportunity for staff or the applicant to review and respond.
Mark Thorne, identified in the minutes as the managing director of Suncadia, requested a continuance to allow time to prepare responses. Other members of the public, including Tom Miller and a resident recorded as Ira ASTRICHAII, asked that they have another chance to comment at the continuance. Several speakers raised substantive points about the proposed extension moving current agreement terms from 2030 to 2045 and urged a comprehensive plan review with attention to water availability before approval.
Vice-Chairman Wachsmith moved to continue the public hearing to Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Commissioners Auditorium and to keep the record open; Commissioner Laura Osiadacz seconded and the motion carried 3-0.
The continuance gives staff and the applicant additional time to respond to the public comments and for the board to consider any supplemental materials or technical information on water availability and other concerns prior to further action.
