Kittitas County commissioners continue hearing on sale of solid-waste property after notice error

Chair Cory Wright opened a public hearing at 2:00 p.m. on Feb. 3 to consider disposing of surplus county property at 925 S. Industrial Way, Ellensburg, by intergovernmental agreement with the City of Ellensburg under RCW Chapter 39.33.
Doug Laurent, the county's HHW coordinator, told the board staff had timely requested publication of the legal notice but the county's designated legal newspaper did not publish the notice on Jan. 22, 2026. Laurent said staff recommended continuing the hearing so the county could meet statutory public-notice requirements.
Vice-Chairman Wachsmith moved to adopt Resolution No. 2026-015 to continue the Feb. 3 hearing; Commissioner Laura Osiadacz seconded. The motion carried 3-0. The board left the administrative record open and rescheduled consideration for Feb. 10, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. in the Commissioners Auditorium.
The continuance preserves the county's statutory process for intergovernmental property transfers and ensures additional time for any public comment or responses from the City of Ellensburg. The county cited RCW Chapter 39.33 in opening the hearing; staff will return with any supplemental information or corrected notice for the rescheduled session.
