Kittitas County approves nonexclusive franchise for Inland Telephone

On Jan. 20, 2026, the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners approved a nonexclusive franchise allowing Inland Telephone Company to use county roads, rights-of-way and other county property to provide telecommunications services.
Public Works Director Josh Fredrickson told the board the previous franchise agreement had expired and that a new agreement was required to cover existing and new services within the franchise area. "The previous Franchise Agreement expired and a new one is required for existing and new services in the franchise area," Fredrickson said.
No members of the public requested to testify during the hearing. Vice-Chairman Brett Wachsmith moved to approve the franchise; Commissioner Laura Osiadacz seconded. The motion carried, 3-0.
The board did not state an effective date during the meeting. The franchise approval authorizes Inland Telephone to operate in county rights-of-way under the terms of the agreement and allows county staff to finalize any ministerial steps required to implement the contract.
The meeting adjourned at 2:04 p.m.
