Kittitas County directs staff to seek amended quote for Rodeo Arena change orders

Kittitas County commissioners on Jan. 5 directed staff to obtain an amended quote for change orders at the county’s new Rodeo Arena after staff said structural upgrades and additional electrical groundwork are necessary to meet county building-code requirements and plan for future needs.
Chairman Laura Osiadacz opened the special meeting at 11:00 a.m. to review the proposed change orders with Facilities Director Patti Stacey and IT Director Doug Fessler. Stacey told the board the fixed-cost change orders under consideration are needed to provide the structural integrity required for the new arena and to ensure compliance with current county building-code requirements.
Fessler outlined a separate change-order request that would have the contractor trench and install conduit for future electrical service. According to the staff presentation, installing conduit now as part of the contractor’s work would be a defined, fixed cost and could avoid uncertain, potentially higher retrofitting costs later while accommodating future growth.
After discussion, the board directed staff to obtain an amended quote for trenching and conduit placement that balances future growth needs with fiscal responsibility. The board instructed Facilities Director Patti Stacey to meet with the contractor to clarify the scope of work and to bring an updated estimate back to the board for further review. No formal motion or vote was recorded in the meeting minutes.
No members of the public spoke during the citizen comment period. The meeting record lists Commissioner Cory Wright and Chairman Laura Osiadacz as present; Commissioner Brett Wachsmith was excused. County staff listed as present included County Auditor Bryan Elliott, Budget & Finance Director Zach Dehaven, Infrastructure Manager Bilf Davis, Facilities Director Patti Stacey, IT Director Doug Fessler and Office Administrator Jodi Larsen. One member of the public attended. The special meeting concluded at 11:24 a.m.
