Commission approves EMS equipment surplus and adds pay supplement for three deputy drug investigators

At its May 17 meeting the Cheatham County Legislative Body authorized the surplus and disposal of county equipment and approved a personnel supplement for law-enforcement investigators.

Surplus equipment: The commission authorized declaring a 2006 Zoll E Series cardiac monitor (serial AB06I002450) surplus (Resolution 13) with disposition to sale, recycling or disposal, noting the unit had reached end of life.

Personnel supplement: Budget committee recommended and the commission approved (roll-call 11–0–1) a permanent pay supplement for three deputy positions who will be designated and paid as drug investigators. The supplement will be paid from the Drug Control Fund and will be effective July 1, 2021; it is contingent on available Drug Control Fund balances and may be discontinued if funding is unavailable.

Sheriff’s remarks: Sheriff Mike Breedlove reported an increase in reported domestic-violence incidents and said he is working with state and federal partners, including Homeland Security, on a program to give deputies expanded access to information across states.

Why it matters: The surplus of equipment follows standard asset-management practice for obsolete life-safety equipment. The deputy supplements create a personnel cost that is explicitly tied to Drug Control Fund availability and formalizes a dedicated drug-investigations role within the sheriff’s office.

What’s next: Surplus procedures will be handled through the county’s surplus process, and the payroll changes will be implemented in the county budget and payroll system effective July 1, subject to fund availability.
