Cheatham County legislative body approves one rezoning, defers another and adopts budget amendments

A second rezoning request — CRS Engineering representing Donald Head for Map 13, Parcel 9.00 on Country View Road — had its initial motion and second withdrawn after discussion. Commissioner Walter Weakley moved, and Commissioner Eugene O. Evans Sr. seconded, to defer the application until the April meeting so neighbors could be properly notified; that deferral passed by roll-call vote 11 Yes, 0 No, 1 Absent (See Resolution 5).
County Mayor Kerry McCarver presented several administrative items, including authorization for the mayor to sign a professional services agreement related to grant funding, an application for Office of Criminal Justice Programs (OCJP) grant funds for ADA compliance in 2021, and authorization of a 10% compensation of the base amount for Martha Brooke Perry in relation to the county delinquent tax attorney contract. Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts outlined modest county general fund budget amendments — for example, Jail $423.93; County Buildings $1,309.44; Sheriff's Department $6,206.04; County Clerk's Office $7,072.50; Accounting and Budgeting $8,237.06 — with funding listed as "Various." During reports, County Attorney Michael Bligh invited questions. Economic and Community Development Director Jerome Terrell said there are six active projects including Caymas Boats constructing a new office and showroom. Sheriff Mike Breedlove reported increases in domestic violence, thefts and overdoses, and commended Officer Chris Gilmore for a successful roadblock. School Communications Director Tim Adkins said the new school bus garage is progressing, a storage building will be built this summer, summer camps are being planned and several local schools had moved to virtual learning that day; he also provided graduation dates for local high schools in late May.
Commissioner Randy Liles asked about Cheatham County Animal Control staffing; Mayor McCarver said Brittany Sellers had been appointed Animal Control Director and that there was not a current need for a full-time veterinarian. Committee reports included a Beer Board recommendation to return with a distance recommendation between permit holders and sensitive sites, and Capital Improvements approved future courthouse office assignments. The commission approved a slate of notary public applicants on the consent calendar and adjourned at 7:34 p.m.
