Chairman Donnie Jordan opened a public hearing Aug. 15 before the Cheatham County Legislative Body to consider five rezoning petitions from property owners across the county.
At the hearing, Tracy Baker, the authorized real-estate agent representing Danny and Jeannie Young, described a proposed R1-to-R3 rezoning at 7515 Old Clarksville Pike that would allow two quadplexes totaling eight units. Neighbors Claude and Pamela Adams spoke in opposition. Joey Bell spoke in favor of a separate request on Pack Cemetery Road.
Following testimony, commissioners moved through each advertised request. The body voted to defer the Matt Hooper petition (R1 to C3 for 2005 Petway Road, Map 56 Parcel 31.01) to the Sept. 18 meeting by roll-call vote 11–0. A motion to deny the Ronald Bell Agriculture-to-E1 petition (1065 Pack Cemetery Road, Map 80 Parcel 26.04) initially passed a denial motion 5–6 and thus failed; a subsequent motion to approve the same rezoning passed 9–2. The Young property rezoning (R1 to R3 for Map 38 Parcel 31.04) was denied by vote 9–2 after public comment. Commissioners also approved rezoning Ronnie and Pam Johnson's parcel from Agriculture to R1 (1888 Mosley Ferry Road, Map 18 Parcel 2.23) by a unanimous 11–0 roll-call vote.
All roll-call tallies and the full text of the enacted resolutions were entered into the meeting record. There was no additional formal action at the meeting to approve any development plan; approvals were strictly for zoning changes that change the parcel's land-use designation.
The council closed the public hearing at 6:21 p.m. and moved to other agenda items including county contracts and budget amendments.
Ending: The deferred Hooper petition will reappear on the panel's Sept. 18 agenda; applicants and neighbors may expect further review during that session.
