Residents raise road, noise and property concerns; commissioners approve zoning change and local speed reductions

At its April 18 meeting in Ashland City, the Cheatham County Legislative Body heard several public comments and approved a handful of local items including a zoning change and two speed-limit reductions.
During public forum, resident Jim Elmi asked the county to restore his driveway at 1120 Lakeside Drive to its pre‑work condition after the County Highway Commission dug a hole that now prevents access when it rains. James Moore asked commissioners to lower the speed limit on Friendship Acres Drive to 30 miles per hour. Marshall Sanford asked the Sheriff's Department to be given authority to intervene in instances of amplified loud music in his Aberdeen Subdivision neighborhood. Those items were raised as public-comment requests; no formal county action on property repair or noise enforcement authority was recorded in the meeting minutes.
Later in the meeting, the body approved a zone-change application for Jason McGlothren (Map 21, Parcel 97 on Longstreet Avenue) — changing the parcel from Agriculture to R1 — by roll-call vote (12–0). Commissioners also voted to reduce the speed limit on Charlie Reed Road from 45 to 25 mph and on Friendship Acres from 40 to 30 mph; the speed-limit reductions were recorded as approved by voice vote.
Chairman Donnie Jordan opened and closed the public hearing on the zoning matter; Building Department representative Franklin Wilkinson introduced the item and Commissioner Chris Gilmore moved the zoning approval. Commissioners adjourned at 7:01 p.m.
The minutes note routine consent-calendar reports from sheriff, UT Extension, Veterans Service and others, and list newly commissioned notaries. Several items discussed during the 'Calendar and Rules' committee — dogs barking, shooting in subdivisions and naming a National Guard armory — generated discussion but no formal county action at this meeting.
