Cheatham County commissioners approve contracts, budget amendments and road work

At its March 21 meeting the commission approved the Mayor’s signatures on several contracts (copier, delinquent tax attorney, environmental services), multiple budget amendments across funds, a new HVAC allocation and a 300-foot road extension, and accepted several special recognitions.
The Cheatham County Legislative Body approved a package of mayoral contracts, budget amendments and routine measures on March 21 in Ashland City.
County Mayor Kerry McCarver presented a set of mayoral signature items that the commission approved by roll-call vote: a copier contract with RJ Young Company that includes an EMS addendum; the retention and compensation arrangement for delinquent tax attorney Martha Brooke Perry under Tenn. Code Ann. 67-5-2404 (10% of base amount collected); and a professional services agreement with Caldwell Environmental Solutions, LLC to complete the county’s 2021 Annual Progress Report to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. Commissioner Tim Williamson moved each of those signature items; Commissioner Diana Pike Lovell seconded. All passed 11-0 with one commissioner absent.
Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts presented and the commission approved a series of budget amendments covering County General, Highway, Solid Waste and school-related lines. The board approved a capital outlay request for school buses (covered separately) and a transfer from Highway fund balance to the general debt service fund to apply toward the principal on a highway facility loan. Commissioners also approved moving Pegram Elementary phone upgrade funds and other line-item amendments noted in the record.
In other business commissioners approved $8,600.12 for conversion to an electric heat-pump system for a county facility; approved adding 300 feet to Indian Springs Road starting at its beginning; and approved a consent calendar that included notary public appointments. The meeting concluded after brief department announcements and a veterans-services update; Director of the Veteran Service Office Lloyd Sharpe reported Cheatham County had 593 veteran claims on file with 228 active claims and said 99% of claims are processed by phone or email.
All recorded roll-call votes on formal motions were unanimous among commissioners present (11 yes, 0 no) with one commissioner absent. The meeting adjourned at 6:22 p.m.
