Cheatham County approves a package of budget amendments and raises employer TCRS rate to 6%

The Cheatham County Legislative Body approved multiple budget amendments across sheriff, jail, libraries, elections and other departments and certified an employer TCRS contribution rate of 6.00% for July 1, 2022–June 30, 2023; the commission also moved $200,000 from education debt service to pay a school note.
Cheatham County commissioners on May 16 approved a package of budget amendments and transfers affecting several departments and certified an employer contribution rate for the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System (TCRS).
Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts and the Budget Committee presented the measures, which the commission approved by roll call. The amendments moved funds to cover payroll and overtime, grant-related reimbursements and other department shortages. Notable transfers recorded in the minutes include allocations for the sheriff’s department (several transfers to cover overtime and training pay), jail equipment and overtime, election commission costs related to a primary and redistricting, American Rescue Plan Act reimbursements to the county library and archives lines, and other departmental adjustments. The packet lists many line-item amounts; commissioners approved the full package by roll call.
On pension funding, Cheatham County acknowledged the TCRS actuarial valuation (June 30, 2021) that computed a total employer actuarially determined contribution rate of 5.96% for the July 2022–June 2023 period. The county elected to pay a slightly higher 6.00% employer contribution and returned the signed certification identifying County Mayor Kerry McCarver as the signee.
For education debt management, commissioners authorized a $200,000 transfer from the Education Debt Service Fund to the debt service principal line to pay off a recent school note for laptops and avoid future interest charges.
