Cheatham County approves Sycamore Square office renovation, budget amendments, board appointments and vehicle surplus

Cheatham County commissioners on Jan. 24 approved a package of routine but consequential administrative items, including a renovation at Sycamore Square, several budget amendments across county funds, reappointments to boards, and the surplus of older county vehicles.
County Mayor Kerry McCarver presented a request to add a partitioned office at Sycamore Square for accounting; commissioners approved the renovation with funding from Sycamore Square reserves by roll-call vote 8–0.
Director of Accounts Sandrine Batts and the Budget Committee recommended amendments to the County General Fund, the Highway/Public Works fund, and the Other Capital Projects — Vehicles fund. Noted transfers included $16,950 moved from a Special Patrols/Jail reserve to purchase a replacement motor-vehicle for the jail; reallocation of minor donations to library book lines; and reallocation within E911 to reinstate an assistant director position fully reimbursed by the E911 Board. Commissioners approved the budget amendments by roll-call vote 8–0.
The commission also authorized surplus and disposal (sale or recycle) of a 2013 Dodge Charger (jail vehicle; motor issues) and a 2005 Chevrolet crew cab from Building Maintenance. The surplus actions were approved by roll-call vote 8–0.
Appointments were approved for the Zoning Appeals Board (Johnny Beasley, Roy Miles, Larry Nash, Luann Engleman filling a vacancy, Burt Adcock) and the Planning Commission (Chester Hannah, Chris Atkins, Allen Nicholson, Gary Chance, Mark Jarrell, Brenda Montgomery, Ty Brown, John Werne, Brian McClain). The consent calendar — which included emergency management projects ($82,000 for School Board Building work; $62,300 for an EMA storage building), a Road & Bridge 2022 road list, and other informational items — was approved by voice vote.
Commissioners also recognized a $50,000 donation from Ryan Upchurch to the Ark in Pegram for tornado relief. With routine business concluded, the meeting adjourned at 6:32 p.m.
